Tony Roman
Québec Pop Music Industry Pioneer
Tony Roman became a teen idol in 1964 with his wild French version of Do Wha Diddy. His multiple appearances on popular Québec TV shows propelled him to stardom. After his death in June 2007, Christine St-Pierre, Québec’s Minister of Culture, Communications and Status of Women issued the following press release :
“I was deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Tony Roman's passing, and on behalf of all Quebecers, I salute his innovative contribution to our cultural heritage. As a musician, performer and producer, Mr. Roman was one of the leading figures of Quebec's musical ingenuity, notably through his unwavering support of Quebec artists whose talent he recognized.
